Caitlin Schetter

Returning to the NCAA Championships in the long jump for the third year in a row, junior Caitlin Schetter from Wisconsin-La Crosse won her first national title at the NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the ONU Sports Center on Friday.

Schetter jumped 19-00 during the prelims to give her a commanding lead. She extended her lead with a leap of 19-2 on her last attempt of the finals.

Last year, Schetter jumped 17-11 to place eighth and earn All-American honors. She will also be competing in the triple jump on Saturday.

Following close behind were sophomore Christina Taylor of Cabrini in second (18-6), junior Katie Fondow of Wisconsin-La Crosse in third (18-4.5) and sophomore Kristen Tricocci of New Jersey in fourth (18-3).

Milwaukee Engineering senior Catherine Chappell finished in fifth (18-0.25), junior Lizzy Stanton of Capital was sixth (17-11.75), senior Melissa Faby of St. Norbert was seventh (17-11) and Greenville senior Jamecia McCall grabbed the final All-American spot with her eighth-place finish (17-10.75).

Fondow was third for the second straight year, while McCall was also a repeat All-American.
