Crystal Blamy
Keene State
Keene State senior Crystal Blamy was nearly perfect en route to a first-place finish in the women’s high jump at the NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at ONU Sportscenter.

Blamy easily cleared the bar in the first four rounds, never using more than her first attempt to clear heights at 5-1.25, 5-3.25 and was one of only four women to clear 5-5.25. Blamy once again only needed one attempt to clear 5-6.5 and it appeared she had wrapped the national championship up until Lisa Shepherd, a sophomore from Richard Stockton, cleared on her third and final attempt.

“This is an absolutely amazing feeling and the perfect end to the year. I struggled a lot in my past and to come back and win it in my final year is the best feeling yet.” -- Crystal Blamy, Keene State
Blamy and Shepherd went head-to-head at 5-7.75. Blamy cleared on her second attempt and watched anxiously as Shepherd ended just short.

This is the first national championship for Blamy who was a 2006 All-American.

Shepherd finished second (5-6.5) and was followed by freshman Erin Neville of Wheaton (5-5.25) in third, sophomore Abby Owens of Greenville College came in fourth (5-5.25) and senior Amanda Haney of Geneseo SUNY, sophomore Madeline Steininger of Lawarence and sophomore Kristen Serikstand of Cortland SUNY all tied for fifth at 5-3.25.

Junior Cathryn McLean of Farmingdale SUNY came in eighth (5-3.25) to grab the final All-American honor.
