Catherine Beck, Kaleigh Fitzpatrick, Stephanie McNamara, Katy O'Brien -- Tufts
The Tufts team of freshman Stephanie McNamara and seniors Katy O’Brien, Kaleigh Fitzpatrick and Catherine Beck led from wire-to-wire en route to capturing the women’s distance medley relay title at the NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at the ONU Sports Center.

The Tufts relay finished with a time of 11:46.79 to edge St. Thomas (11:48.10) and set an ONU Sports Center record. O’Brien, Fitzpatrick and Beck returned from the team that finished runner-up in the DMR at the 2007 Indoor Championships.

“I think it was something that we were definitely gunning for. We knew every year that there’s great competition and that we weren’t going to be fresh. Williams earned All-American honors for the third consecutive championships by finishing third in 11:56.56. Washington placed fourth (12:04.95), while Wartburg finished fifth (12:04.95) and Wisconsin-Eau Clair was sixth (12:07.70).

Rounding out the All-American DMR teams were Colby in seventh (12:10.60) and Keene State in eighth (12:12.60).

Tufts’ Beck and O’Brien also qualified for Saturday’s finals in the 1-mile run earlier on Friday.
