From the starting gun Wisconson Platteville junior Jessica Scott took the lead and didn’t give it up. Scott won the women’s 800-meter run at the NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the ONU Sportscenter.

Of the eight competitors who made the finals, Scott came in the with the fastest time. Her winning time Saturday was her best of the season at 2:11.84.

The national runner-up was Union sophomore Allie Cuozzo (2:13.60). This was her second time being an All-American for indoor track.

“Oh my God I did this. I can’t believe it. It’s been a long journey through the last few years. It’s unbelievable. I felt so strong and so relaxed. I feel I actually do better when I take the lead and get going. It makes me feel like I have to push myself more because people are behind me. My mom is always pushing me to do better. She passed away my freshman year of college. She’s always there helping me give my all no matter where I place. Her and my dad are definately my biggest forces helping me do well. Third place went to Illinois Weslayan sophomore Mackenzie Clemens (2:14.74) while Williams freshman Sara Wild placed fourth (2:15.24).

Taking fifth place was Simpson freshman Catie Ellington (2:16.18) and sixth place went to Bates junior Izzy Alexander (2:16.46).

The final two All-Americans were College of New Jersery junior Stephanie Herrick placing seventh (2:17.46) and Carrol senior Erin Kelley placed eighth (2:20.52).
