Bates senior Noah Gauthier took home the national champioship in the 35-pound weight throw Friday afternoon at the NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the ONU Sportcenter.

Gauthier’s third throw in the prelims eventually became the winning throw. His throw of 63-1.5 was the best mark in the NCAA III this season.

“This feels pretty amazing.. It was four years of hard work. This is my fourth time in the national championship. It’s awesome to finally come out on top. I’m kind of at a loss for words. Defiance senior Trevor Matzusak placed second with a throw of 62-2.25. He was followed by a fellow senior from Monmouth, Zach Wilson. He placed third with a throw of 61-0.75. and earned All-American for the second straight year.

Rochester senior Mike Burgstorm placed fourth (59-10.5) to earn his second All-American honor and was followed by Wisconson-Oshkosh junior Phil Prusinski (59-9.5) in fifth.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire junior Sam Johnson placed sixth (59-4.75), while Central senior Jason Fisher (57-9.5) was seventh and Coast Guard senior Chris Hunt (57-3.75) placed eighth to earn the final All-American honors.
