James struggled early in his first two attempts including a foul. On his third attempt James soared to 48-9 and a national championship. Junior Jesse Dengsavang of Wisconsin-La Crosse, a 2007 All-American, finished sixth and No. 1 qualifier freshman Chrys Jones of Centre College suffered an injury Friday and was unable to compete in the men’s triple jump.
Senior Dan Marcy of Tufts University came in second (48-4.5) and was followed by junior Eric Buss of St. John’s (Minn.) (48-2.75) in third. Wisconsin-Oshkosh sophomore James Simms (48-1.25) finished fourth while junior Pete Charles of Lehman took fifth at 48-1.25. Dengsavang (47-10), senior Nick Kipe of Messiah College (46-10.75), and junior Justin McQuality of North Central College (46-8.75) rounded out the All-Americans. |
