Kamar James
Fisk
Sophomore Kamar James of Fisk University successfully defended his crown in the men’s triple jump Saturday morning at the NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the ONU Sportscenter.

James struggled early in his first two attempts including a foul. On his third attempt James soared to 48-9 and a national championship.

Junior Jesse Dengsavang of Wisconsin-La Crosse, a 2007 All-American, finished sixth and No. 1 qualifier freshman Chrys Jones of Centre College suffered an injury Friday and was unable to compete in the men’s triple jump.
“My favorite saying is ‘The brave may fall but never heel’ which to me means a champion always gets up. I wanted to jump 50 and I didn’t. I’m excited to win again but I didn’t achieve all my goals I wanted to today.” -- Kamar James, Fisk

Senior Dan Marcy of Tufts University came in second (48-4.5) and was followed by junior Eric Buss of St. John’s (Minn.) (48-2.75) in third.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh sophomore James Simms (48-1.25) finished fourth while junior Pete Charles of Lehman took fifth at 48-1.25.

Dengsavang (47-10), senior Nick Kipe of Messiah College (46-10.75), and junior Justin McQuality of North Central College (46-8.75) rounded out the All-Americans.
