Beresford Brown

Moravian senior Beresford Brown captured the long jump title at the NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the ONU Sportscenter on Friday.

Brown, making his first appearance in the national meet in the long jump, won the title with a leap of 23-11.75 set in the prelims. Brown edged two-time defending champion Greg Tyson (23-10), of Heidelberg by less than two inches.

“A lot of people were rooting for me, and I just thought about how it wasn’t just for me anymore, it was about my coach, my family, and my friends. My coach past away in October and I dedicated my season to him. I’ve spent three years waiting to be here for the long jump and finally my senior I had my last hurrah with a big jump” -- Beresford Brown, Moravian
Following Tyson and also earning All-American honors were Ohio Northern senior Ryan Robertson in third (23-4.5), Centre freshman Chrys Jones in fourth (23-2.75, St. Thomas junior James Ewer in fifth (23-3.5).

Wisconsin Witewater senior Derek Stanley finished sixth (23-1.25), Wilmington senior Marque Jones seventh (22-10.75) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology sophomore Stephen Morton eighth (22-9.75).

Brown, and All-American hurdler, will also be competeing in the 55-meter hurdles and the 55-meter dash.

Robertson earned All-American for the second consecutive year, while Marque Jones was also an All-American in 2006.
