Four returning All-Americans competed in this year’s men’s high jump, but freshman Josh Jones from Thiel College took first place Saturday afternoon at the NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the ONU Sportscenter.

Jones breezed through the first three rounds never needing more than one attempt until 6-9.75. Only two jumpers qualified to attempt 6-11 and Jones nailed it on his second attempt. The height was an all-time best for Jones. He also attempted to clear 7-1 but failed in his three attempts.

Returning All-American sophomore Cody Stelzer of Whitworth University earned second place at 6-9.75 and junior Dean Brown from the City College of New York finished out the top three with a height of 6-8.75.

The other jumpers in the top eight were sophomore Ted Simmons of Messiah College (6-8.75) in fourth, two-time All American junior Ted McMillan of Augustana (Illinois) who earned fifth (6-8.75).

2007 All-American senior Joseph Owens of Christopher Newport and junior Zach Shew of McMurray University tied for sixth (6-6.75) and sophomore David Stauder of Wisconsin La-Crosse earned eighth (6-6.75).
