Peter Kosgei

Peter Kosgei followed up his impressive victory in the 1-mile run with an equally impressive performance in the 800-meter dash, completing the sweep of his two events Saturday afternoon.

Kosgei ran a Division III-season best time of 1:51.97 to edge Matt Kramer of Wisconsin-Superior (second place, 1:52.70), Jimmy O’Brien of Ohio Northern (third place, 1:52.84) and Nick Stenuf of Nazareth (fourth place, 1:52.85).

“The 800 is a shorter race, so I wasn’t that concerned about fatigue. I’m very happy to have won the race because I was concentrating on the mile run and there are a lot of fast guys in the 800. This was a pleasant surprise.” -- Peter Kosgei, Hamilton
Kosgei is now a three-time All-American, having earned the honor in the 3,000-meter steeplechase outdoors last spring.

Brian Sames of Saint Thomas was fifth in 1:53.94, Nick Zeien of Wisconsin-River Falls was sixth in 1:55.22, Adam Pennington of North Central was seventh in 1:55.54 and Matt Cash of Mary Washington was eighth in 1:56.68.

The race was fast-paced from the start and Kosgei took control on the final lap, pulling away from the field on the front stretch.
