Jimmy O'Brien named OAC Track Athlete of the Week |

By Gary Petit ADA Ohio Northern junior Jimmy O’Brien (Pemberville/Eastwood) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Rhodes ( O’Brien, a four-time All-American and fresh off his third place finish in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Indoor Championships, finished third in the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.75. His time was .25 of a second off of the NCAA Provisional mark and was .75 seconds shy of a school record. Out of the 33 competitors in the field, O’Brien finished third behind Jason Brooks (47.95), an unattached runner, and Chris Bush (48.59) of Division I Mississippi. This is the seventh-time in his career that O’Brien has been named the OAC Runner of the Week. He has earned the honor three times indoors, including twice this past season, and now four times during the outdoor season. O’Brien set five indoor school records this past season (500, 800, 1,000, 1-mile and 4x400 relay) and currently holds four outdoor school records (800, 1,500, 4x400 relay and 4x800 relay). He won the 800-meter national title at both the indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships in 2007 and was an All-American during the 2007 cross country season. O’Brien and the Polar Bears will be back in action March 29 at the OAC Split Meet hosted by |
