Feb. 8, 2008 By Zach Stipe ADA Ryan Robertson won a pair of events to lead the Ohio Northern men’s track and field team to a first-place finish at Friday Night Series Meet No. 3 at the ONU Sports Center. ONU scored 178.5 points to win the meet and were followed by Hillsdale (Mich.) (149), Cedarville (117), Findlay (77.5), Wilmington (77.5), Albion (Mich.) (45), Defiance (39.5), Rio Grande (28) and Bluffton (12). Robertson won the 55-meter dash in 6.48 and jumped 21-08 to finish first in the long jump. Freshman Jacob Fox won the 55-meter hurdles and was runner-up to Robertson in the long jump. Fox won the 55-meter hurdles in 7.79 and long-jumped 21-07.5. Fox was also fifth in the 300-meter dash in 37.83. Sophomore Joe Amstutz led an impressive ONU trio in the 400-meter dash with a winning performance of 51.12. Freshmen Shane Huntley and Evan Heyman weren’t far behind finishing in third (52.32) and fifth (53.13), respectively. Amstutz, Huntley and Heyman combined with freshman Jeff Messmer to place third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:28.83. Northern’s only other winner was freshman Julian Horn. Horn blasted past the field to take first in the 200-meter dash in 23.08. Junior Justin Linzy placed in three events. He clocked a career-best 6.57 in the 55 to finish third, jumped 20-11.75 to place fifth in the long jump and ran a time of 37.45 to place third in the 300-meter dash. Horn also added a sixth-place in the 55 with a time of 6.61. Jacob Weyrauch cleared 15-00 for the first time in his career en route to a second-place finish in the pole vault. Sophomore Paul Metzner finished fifth with a vault of 13-11.75. Rounding out the field event scoring was junior Dominic Clouse and Brandon Pritchard. In the triple jump, Clouse finished second with a distance of 41-08.75 and Pritchard was fourth with a leap of 39-04.00. In addition, the Polar Bears had numerous placers in the middle-distance races. Juniors Eric Porter and Steve Darmon finished 2-3 in the 800-meter run. Porter clocked a time of 2:00.83, while Darmon was a few steps behind in 2:02.49. Sophomore Brad Neumann led three placers in the 1,000-meter run. Neuman finished second in 2:41.00, while freshman Travis Isenberg placed third in 2:42.16 and senior Robert Leslie finished sixth in 2:45.56. Sophomore Mike Johnson ran a time of 1:10.74 to finish third in the 500-meter run. In the 3,000-meter run, sophomore Ben McPheron ran a time of 9:19.58 to place sixth. The Ohio Northern men’s track and field team returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Westerville to compete in the 2008 All-Ohio Indoor Championships hosted by Otterbein. |
