By Tim Glon ADA Four Ohio Northern players were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in men’s tennis for 2008 in voting conducted by the league’s 10 head coaches. Seniors Micah Scott (Reynoldsburg) and Bart Schenck (Wooster) and junior Chris Dohner (Englewood/Northmont) were First Team honorees and junior Ryan Paul (West Milton/Milton-Union) was named Second Team All-OAC. Glenn Scheutzow was named the OAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year for the second consecutive time. Scott is a four-time First Team All-OAC selection and was named the OAC Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2006. This season, he is 16-9 at No. 1 singles, is 22-4 at No.1 doubles and is 38-13 overall. In his four seasons at Ohio Northern, Scott is 63-29 in singles, is 74-20 in doubles and is 137-49 overall. He is ONU’s all-time career wins leader with his 74 doubles wins and his 137 overall wins. His 63 singles wins ranks him third all-time at ONU. He has also been named the OAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week five times in his career, including on March 14 of this season. Schenck is making his second appearance on the All-Conference team. He was named Second Team All-OAC as a freshman in 2005. This year, he is 18-5 in singles (primarily at No. 2 ), 23-4 at No. 1 doubles and is 41-9 overall. In his career, Schenck is 49-20 in singles, 61-18 in doubles and is 110-38 overall. His 61 doubles wins ranks him fourth all-time at ONU. He was also named the OAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week on April 7 this season. Dohner is now a three-time All-OAC honoree, earning Second Team honors as a sophomore in 2007 and Honorable Mention kudos as a freshman in 2006. He is 13-9 in singles, is 14-9 in doubles and is 27-18 overall this season, playing primarily at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles. In his three-years at ONU, Dohner is 41-27 in singles, 45-22 in doubles and is 86-49 overall. Dohner is undefeated in three seasons of OAC regular season play, boasting a perfect 51-0 record. In 26 career regular season OAC matches, he is 26-0 in singles and is 25-0 in doubles play. Paul is now a two-time All-OAC selection, as he was a First Team pick as a freshman in 2006. This season, he is 15-6 in singles (12-4 at No. 3), 14-7 in doubles (11-6 at No. 2) and is 29-13 overall. In his career, Paul is 39-24 in singles, 52-18 in doubles and 91-42 overall. His 52 doubles wins ranks tenth all-time at ONU. The Polar Bears will enter NCAA Tournament play on Friday with a 17-4 record and have clinched their 24th consecutive winning season. They won their second consecutive OAC Tournament title and their third straight OAC Regular Season crown this year under third-year head coach Glenn Scheutzow. Northern will play Transylvania (Ky.) Friday at 4 pm in the First Round of the NCAA Central Regional at Kenyon. A victory over Transylvania would then pit the Polar Bears against No. 11-ranked Kenyon Saturday at 4 pm. The Regional finals are slated for 1 pm Sunday at Kenyon with the NCAA Championships scheduled for May 13-18 at Lewiston, Maine. |
