Schenck joins elite 100-win club as MTennis beats Otterbein 8-1

ADA — Senior Bart Schenck became the 13th member of Ohio Northern’s elite 100-win club as the Polar Bears beat Ohio Athletic Conference foe Otterbein 8-1 Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Ohio Northern improves to 12-4 and 7-0 in the OAC while Otterbein falls to 4-8, 2-3.

Schenck earned career victory No. 100, winning at No. 1 doubles with partner, junior Ryan Paul, 8-4, and victory No. 101 at No. 1 singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

With today’s wins, Schenck is tied with senior and fellow 100-win club member Micah Scott in overall victories this season with 32. Schenck’s other honors include being a First Team All-OAC member in 2007 and a Second Team All-OAC member in 2005. He was also named team MVP last year after leading the Polar Bears in singles victories (16) and doubles victories (19).

Junior Chris Dohner and doubles partner freshman Jeff Carter won at No. 3 doubles 8-0 to give the Polar Bears a 2-1 edge after doubles competition.

Paul won his tenth singles match of the year at No. 2 singles winning 7-5, 6-1 and remained undefeated in the OAC at 6-0.

Dohner also remained undefeated in conference competition improving to 7-0 in the OAC winning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Junior Jay Vaidya won at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0, senior Kyle Webb improved to 12-5 in singles play winning at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-1.

Freshman Kyle Barnaba finished the sweep in singles competition with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday at 3:30 as they travel to Baldwin-Wallace (6-0 OAC) for a key OAC matchup. ONU and Baldwin-Wallace are currently tied atop the OAC standings.
