Ohio Northern advances to OAC Tournament finals with 5-3 semifinal victory over John Carroll |

By Tim Glon MASON Ohio Northern men's tennis team advanced to the finals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament with a 5-3 semifinal victory over John Carroll Friday morning at the Lindner Tennis Center. The top-seeded Polar Bears improve to 16-4, while the fourth-seeded Blue Streaks end their season at 7-6. Ohio Northern/John Carroll advances to the OAC Tournament Finals Saturday at 10 am, against second-seeded Baldwin-Wallace, who topped third-seeded Mount Union 5-0 in the other semifinal on Friday. Ryan Paul posted the deciding victoory, topping Chad Reuhs 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Bart Schenck topped Matt Tomayko 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Todd Anderson won 6-0, 7-5 at No. 4 singles over Michael Finissi. Northerrn took two of the three doubles points as Micah Scott and Bart Schenck topped Jamews Steward and Chad Reuhs 8-4 at the No. 1 spot and Thomas Major and Jeff Carter defeated Matt Tomayko and Finissi 8-4 at the No. 3 position. Northern has won three consecutive OAC Regular Season titles and are looking for its second straight OAC Tournament crown. The Polar Bears will return to action on Friday at 9 a.m. against No. 4 John Carroll at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. |
