Polar Bears record fourth shutout with victory over Muskingum |

By Michael Seem NEW CONCORD The Ohio Northern men’s tennis team won for the seventh time in its last eight matches and earned its fourth shutout this year with a 9-0 victory over Ohio Athletic Conference foe Muskingum Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 9-4 and are 5-0 in the OAC while the Muskies fall to 3-5, 2-3. Seniors Micah Scott and Bart Schenck continued their impressive season, earning their 16th victory at No. 1 doubles 8-3. Senior Thomas Major and junior Jay Vaidya followed suit winning 8-4 at No. 2 doubles and juniors Ryan Paul and Chris Dohner completed the sweep in doubles with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. Scott earned his 12th victory at No. 1 singles winning 7-5, 6-2. Schenck and senior Kyle Webb both reached the 10-win mark. Schenck won in consecutive sets 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. Webb won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 6 singles. Dohner lost his first set at No. 3 singles 1-6, but bounced back winning the next two sets 6-1, 6-3 to remain undefeated in the OAC. Scott, Schenck and Dohner are all 5-0 in conference competition this season. Vaidya won at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-1. Paul was perfect at No. 5 singles winning 6-0, 6-0 for his eighth victory overall and moved to 4-0 in the OAC. The Polar Bears return to action on Tuesday at home against OAC foe Heidelberg at 3:30 pm. |
