Michael Schultz sets school record in 1,000 free as ONU tops Wooster

ADA — The Ohio Northern men’s swimming and diving team defeated Wooster while the women’s team fell at ONU Sports Center Natatorium on Saturday.

The Polar Bear men defeated the Fighting Scots 166-127 while the Lady Polar Bears came up short scoring 119.5 to the Fighting Scots’ 176.5.

Freshman Michael Schultz broke the school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle to lead the Polar Bears (3-1).

Schultz’ time of 10:09.43 bettered the previous record of 10:11.60 by more than two full seconds. he also won the 500 free in 5:03.89.

Mike Anderson, Adam Lill, Garret Dauch, Brett Kuhn, Bill Neidinger, and George Chesney all had victories to lead the Polar Bear men.

George Chesney won both the 1-m and 3-m diving events with scores of 259.05 and 254.55, respectively.

Anderson won the 100 breast (1:03.79) and 200 (2:17.69) breast and Kuhn took top places in the 100 free (:48.94) and 200 free (1:50.15).

Lill won the 50 free in :22.24, Neidinger won the 200 fly in 2:09.37 and Dauch won the 200 back in 2:01.33.

Dauch and Kuhn joined John Miller and Ryan Oberst to win the 400 medley relay in 3:44.85.

The Polar Bears are now 3-1 in dual meets and return to action November 16 at Wittenberg.
