Jan. 11, 2008 By Joanne West OBERLIN The Ohio Northern men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams topped non-conference foe Oberlin Friday night at the Oberlin Robert Carr Pool. The Polar Bear men posted a convincing victory, out swimming Oberlin 189-92, winning 12 of 16 events. The Polar Bears (4-2 overall) had several double winners, including Brett Kuhn in the 50 free in 22.19 and the 100 free in 48.75. Michael Schultz won the 1000 free in a school-record 10:54.92 and won the 200 fly in 1:59.52. Diver George Chesney captured first place in the 1-meter (240.55) and 3-meter (280.30) events. His 280.30 score in the 3-meter diving surpassed the NCAA B Cut. Several 1-2 finishes helped bring home the win. In the 100 back, Garret Dauch finished first in 57.13 and Ryan Oberst finised second in 1:02.81. In the 200 breast Ryan Oberst finished first in 2:23.52 and Casey Davis finished third in 2:25.64. In the 500 free, Davis finised first in 5:21.27, Andrew Stephon was second in 5:22.10 and Jacob Andreasen was third with a time of 5:35.90. The Polar Bears also won both relays with Dauch and Kuhn teaming up with John Miller and Mike Anderson in the 200 medley to finise in 1:42.87. Dauch and Miller then joined Stephon and Andre Velez to finish the meet with a win in the 400 free with a time of 3:28.13. The Polar Bears return to the pool Saturday at 1 pm at the Timkin Pool against OAC foe Mount Union. |
