Oct. 27, 2007 By Tim Glon ADA The Ohio Northern men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll in the home opener Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center. The Polar Bear men (2-0 overall, 2-0 OAC) topped the Blue Streaks (1-1, 1-1) by a convincing 187.5-50.5 margin. Northern won all 13 events on the day, with senior Mike Anderson, junior George Chesney, freshman Garrett Dauch and freshman Michael Schultz winning two each. Anderson won the 200 I.M. in 2:10.74 and the 100 breast in 1:05.07 and Chesney swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events with 268.80 and 271.15 points, respectively. Chesney’s 268.80 score in the 1-meter diving surpasses the NCAA cut in the event. Dauch won the 200 free in 1:50.75 and the 100 back in :57.47 and Schultz won the 1,000 free in 10:24.98 and the 500 free in 5:01.59. Three other Polar Bears won one event each. Junior Brett Kuhn won the 100 free in :49.46, sophomore Bill Neidinger won the 100 fly in :58.63 and freshman Adam Lill won the 50 free in :22.36. Ohio Northern also swept the two relay events as Dauch, Kuhn, Neidinger and freshman Ryan Oberst won the 400 medley relay in 3:48.72 and Kuhn, Lill, senior John Miller and freshman John Fusco won the 4-- free relay in 3:23.35. Both Ohio Northern teams will return to action next Friday when they travel to Kenyon and next Saturday when they host Wooster at the ONU Sports Center. |
