ADA — The Ohio Northern men’s soccer team extended its win streak to five games by defeating Manchester (Ind.) 3-1 on Saturday at the ONU Soccer Field.

The Polar Bears improved to 7-3 on the season, while the Spartans fell to 5-3.
Sophomore Dan Otanicar scored his ONU-leading sixth goal of the season and senior Nick Farmwald scored his first goal of the season to lead the Polar Bears.

Northern wasted little time getting on the scoreboard.

Farmwald found the net just 1:15 into the game after knocking in a deflection from junior Adam Ross.

Manchester’s Chris Rowe headed in a cross from teammate Heriju Gadzama to tie the game at 1-1 at the 13:15 mark.

ONU regained the lead two minutes later when Farmwald found senior Zach Huffman for a goal from 20 yards out.

The Polar Bears added another goal midway through the second half when Otanicar scored on a breakaway after a Spartans’ turnover.

ONU freshman keeper Ben Huntley won his third game of the season and made one save.

The Manchester combination of Matt Mullen and Jake Johnson made seven saves.

ONU held a 24-13 edge in shots and a 7-6 advantage on corner kicks.

“I’m happy with the way our starters began the game and got us the early lead,” ONU head coach Brent Ridenour said. “That was really important to us.”

Ohio Northern returns to action this Wednesday at 4 p.m. when it hosts No. 22-ranked Ohio Wesleyan at the ONU Soccer Field in Ada.
