TIFFIN — Senior Nick Farmwald’s goal with 3:38 left in the first overtime lifted the Ohio Northern men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Heidelberg on Tuesday at Mayer Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference with the win, while the Student Princes drop to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the OAC.

Farmwald’s game winner came off an assist from sophomore Chris Corrado.

After a corner kick bounced out of the box, the ball was flicked back to Corrado, who chipped it to Farmwald for his third goal of the season.

The score was 0-0 at halftime and the game remained scoreless until Heidelberg struck early in the second half.

Owen Botting gave the Princes a 1-0 lead on a free kick from 25 yards out at the 60:13 mark.

Junior Adam Ross tied the game just over seven minutes later, though.

Ross beat one defender and then the keeper with a goal to the near post after taking a through ball from freshman Chaz McCullah.

ONU held a 20-15 edge in shots and an 8-3 edge on corner kicks.

Freshman Ben Huntley made nine saves and improved to 4-0. Heidelberg’s Jared Kealy had 12 saves.

This was ONU’s third overtime win of the year. The Polar Bears are undefeated in their last eight overtime matches at 3-0-5.

Ohio Northern returns to action this Saturday when it hosts Marietta at 12:30 p.m. for a homecoming match at the ONU Soccer Field in Ada. Before the game ONU head coach Brent Ridenour will be honored as a 2007 inductee to the Ohio Northern Athletics Hall of Fame.
