ADA — The No. 15-ranked Capital men’s soccer team scored three second-half goals to down Ohio Northern 3-1 Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the ONU Soccer Field.

The loss drops ONU to 13-5-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the OAC. With the win, Capital wins the OAC Regular Season title with a 7-1-1 mark and are now 14-1-3 overall.

The Polar Bears held the advantage for the majority of the game, outshooting Capital 26-10 and held a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks.

ONU took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute with some help from the Crusaders.

Senior Zach Huffman took a free kick deep in the Capital end. His cross was accidently kicking in by Capital’s Robbie Breen, and the Bears took a 1-0 lead.

The score stayed that way until the 60th minute when Capital’s Steven McCarthy scored his 12th goal of the season. McCarthy’s shot slipped under ONU keeper Ben Huntley, who was forced to leave his box as Capital was on a 3 on 2 breakout.

At the 83:01 mark, Crusader Heath Oberle ripped a shot that deflected off of an ONU defender and found the back of the net for a 2-1 lead.

Riding the momentum, Capital’s Joey Snyder took a shot from 24 yards out just one minute later which found its way past Huntley for the third and final goal of the game.

Huntley ended the game with four saves while Crusader keeper John Snyder played well in goal today, making nine saves.

Depending on the outcome of tonight’s Heidelberg/Mt. Union game, the Polar Bears will either be the No. 3 or 4-seed in next week’s OAC Tournament. ONU will host either Baldwin-Wallace of Marietta in the first round on Monday at 2 pm.
