Oct. 24, 2007 By Tim Glon BEREA Baldwin-Wallace scored the equalizer in the final minute of regulation to tie Ohio Northern 2-2 in double overtime in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Baldwin-Wallace Wednesday evening at George Finnie Stadium. The Polar Bears move to 13-4-2 overall and fall to third place in the OAC standings with 17 points on the strength of a 5-1-2 league mark. Baldwin-Wallace moves to 8-5-4, 3-2-3. After a scoreless first half, Northern got on the board when Dan Otanicar scored off an assist from Tyler Johnston 1:28 into the second half. The goal is the team-leading ninth of the year for Otanicar. It took the Yellow Jackets just 44 seconds to tie the match when Brian Sugarman knocked in a loose ball through traffic at the 42:48 mark of the half. Adam Ross knocked in a loose ball with 7:48 left in the game to give Northern a 2-1 lead. Ross scored his goal when he settled a defelected cross on the right side of the penalty box and scored just inside the far post. Todd Anderson tied the match with just 54 seconds left when he scored off a loose ball from about 15 yards out. Ben Huntley did not have a save in goal for ONU and is now 8-0-2 in his 10 career starts. Mike Russ had three saves for the Yellow Jackets. BW out-shot ONU 19-12 in the contest and had five corner kicks to four for the Polar Bears. Ohio Northern will wrap up its regular season on Saturday at home against Capital at 2 p.m. at the ONU Soccer Field in Ada. The victory clinches a home match in next week's OAC Tournament for the Polar Bears. With a win against Capital, ONU will get a first round bye and will host a semifinal match on Wednesday at 2 pm at the ONU Soccer Field. A loss or tie against the Crusaders will give ONU a home match in the first round on Monday at 2 pm. |
