ADA — Sophomore Tyler Johnston scored two goals off the bench to lead the Ohio Northern men’s soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Anderson (Ind.) on Wednesday at the ONU Soccer Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 6-3, while the Ravens fall to 1-4-1.

Just 2:57 into the game Anderson’s J.J. Darr found the net to give the Ravens an early 1-0 lead. Stephen Harkleroad and Nick Burrus assisted on the play.

Sophomore Chris Corrado answered back at the 8:58 mark. He headed in a free kick from sophomore Dan Schade to tie the game at 1-1.

Johnston added two more goals to give ONU a 3-1 halftime lead.

He headed in a corner kick from freshman Chet Gapczynski at 30:24 and finished a through ball from freshman Chaz McCullah with less than five minutes left in the first half.

The Polar Bears scored a pair of goals in a two-minute span in the second half to pad their lead.

Sophomore Brian Bolibrzuch finished a cross from senior Nick Farmwald at 57:13. Junior Adam Ross also assisted on the goal.

At the 59:13 mark, junior Ben Jackson connected from six yards out off a pass from Bolibrzuch.

ONU freshman keeper Ben Huntley picked up his second win of the season and had three saves.

Hobbs had nine saves, but allowed all five Northern goals.

“I’m happy with the way we came back after giving up the early goal,” ONU head coach Brent Ridenour said. “I thought we gave a great effort and I thought Tyler Johnston played a nice game.”

ONU held a commanding 30-11 edge in shots and an 11-4 advantage on corner kicks.

Bolibrzuch’s goal gives him five for the season and ties him with sophomore Dan Otanicar for the ONU lead. Bolibruzch’s five assists are second on the team behind Otanicar’s seven.

Johnston is third on the team with four goals.

Ohio Northern returns to action this Saturday when it hosts Manchester (Ind.) at 2 p.m. at the ONU Soccer Field in Ada.
