Allegheny’s Nathaniel Yates headed home a free kick as time expired to give Allegheny a 2-1 victory over the Ohio Northern men’s soccer team Wednesday night at the F.B. Fuhrer Field. With the loss, the Polar Bears fall to 1-2 on the season as the win improves the Gators to 2-1. Neither team could notch a score in the first half as each team attempted six shots and both keepers, David Esser for ONU and Ryan Larkin for Allegheny, recorded two saves. The Gators opened the scoring in the second half when Peter Subasic scored unassisted at the 64:58 mark to make the score 1-0 in favor of Allegheny. The Polar Bears responded just ten minutes later when sophomore Brian Bolibrzuch scored his first career goal from 25 yards out off of a pass from Nick Farmwald to knot the game at 1-1 at the 74:33 mark. With just :03 seconds remaining, ONU sophomore Dan Otanicar was whistled for a yellow card near midfield. On the restart, Eric Sloan played a ball into the box and Yates headed it home for the game winner as time expired. Allegheny outshot ONU 13-11 but the Bears held a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks. Esser finished the game with five saves while Larkin recorded four. ONU returns to action this weekend when its hosts the ONU Adidis Classic. ONU will take on Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday at 2:30 pm and Roanoke (Va.) at 2 pm on Sunday. |
