Senior guard Kyle Gehle named to OAC All-Tournament Team

COLUMBUS — Ohio Northern senior guard Kyle Gehle was named to the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball All-Tournament Team Saturday night.

Gehle led the Polar Bears with 34 points in their two OAC Tournament games. He scored 16 in Northern's 79-68 win over Muskingum in the quarterfinals Wednesday and had a team-high 18 in its 81-76 overtime loss at Capital in the semifinals on Friday.

Gehle led the Polar Bears in scoring at 16.1 ppg and in made 3-pointers with 63.

In his 104-game career, Gehle scored 1,250 points, ranking him 16th all-time at ONU. He also ranks eighth with 171 made 3-pointers.

Senior Mark Pratt also played in his final game as a Polar Bear on Friday. Pratt scored 45 career points in 49 games with one start at the point guard position.

In their four years at Ohio Northern, Pratt and Gehle helped the Polar Bears to an impressive 69-37 record.

Ohio Northern posted its 18th consecutive winning season with a 15-12 record in 2007-08 and ONU finished fourth in the OAC with a 10-8 mark. Northern has now finished fourth or higher in the OAC 14 straight times and 15 times in the past 16 seasons.

The Polar Bears also reached the OAC Tournament semifinals for the 12th time in the last 16 seasons.

Northern is now 55-25 under third-year head coach Jeff Coleman.

Junior Jake Cannan led ONU in rebounding (8.1 rpg) and blocked shots (35) and was second in scoring at 13.0 ppg. He had seven double-doubles in 2007-08 and was second on the team with a .541 field goal percentage.

He will enter his senior season ranked No. 1 on ONU's all-time career field goal percentage list at .576 and ranked No. 8 on the blocked shots list with 58.

Sophomore Kyle Meyer finished the year third in scoring at 12.5 ppg and second in rebounding at 5.6 rpg.

He also just missed breaking ONU's single-season field goal shooting percentage. His .651 shooting percentage from the floor was just under the school-record .658 posted in 2002-03 by Sam Mikolajewski.

Junior Kurtis Brown finished the year fourth in scoring at 8.2 ppg. He led the team in free throw percentage at .882, in assists with 81 and in steals with 33.
