ADA — The Ohio Northern men’s cross country team moved up one spot to No. 10 in the sixth bi-weekly United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, released Wednesday.

The Ohio Athletic Conference champion Polar Bears (111-14) received 203 points from the eight-voter panel, one less than last week when they were No. 11.

Northern was ranked No. 10 in the fourth poll, was No. 11 in each of the first three polls and was No. 23 in the preseason poll on Sept. 4.

Calvin (Pa.) remained in the top spot, earning all eight first place votes.

New York U. is second with 272 points, Wisconsin-LaCrosse is third with 260 points and Cortland State (N.Y.) is fourth with 254 points.

Calvin won last year’s NCAA Division III men’s championship with 37 points, far in front of runner-up New York U.’s 92-point total. This year’s NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will be held Nov. 17 in Northfield, Minn.

The Division III men’s cross country rankings are determined by a committee comprised of men’s coaches representing the eight different regions of the country. The men and women have different representatives on the ranking committees.

Two other Ohio Athletic Conference schools joined Ohio Northern is the USTFCCCA poll, as Heidelberg is ranked No. 26 and Mount Union is ranked No. 35.

Northern won the OAC Championship on Oct. 27 and finished second at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships last weekend.

The Polar Bears will compete at the NCAA Divison III Championships at Northfield, Minn., on Nov. 17.
