Ohio Northern men, women sweep OAC All-Sports titles for 2006-07 year

ADA — The Ohio Northern men’s and women’s athletics programs swept the Ohio Athletic Conference All-Sports trophies for the 2006-07 seasons.

The title is the fifth for the women’s teams and their first since 1996-97.

The Lady Polar Bears also won the trophy in 1984-85, 1986-87 and 1987-88.

Ohio Northern totaled 73.50 points, defeating second-place Baldwin-Wallace by a staggering 13.50 points.

Northern’s women won OAC titles in volleyball, cross country, swimming, golf and softball and had upper division finishes in all 10 sports.

The Ohio Northern men won their second consecutive and fourth trophy overall.

The Polar Bears also won title in 1999-2000 and 1994-95.

Northern’s men totaled 66.42 points, easily out-distancing second place Mount Union by 6.92 points.

Ohio Northern won men’s OAC championships in soccer, swimming and tennis and had upper division finishes in nine of the 11 sports.

The OAC annually awards an all-sports trophy to the institution which compiles the best overall record in the men’s championships sponsored by the conference and another all-sports trophy to the institution which compiles the best overall record in the women’s championships sponsored by the Conference.

The first place team in each sport is awarded the number of points that corresponds to the number of schools that sponsor teams in that sport. The second place team received one point less than the first place team, and so on, down to one point for the last place team that competes.
