Curt Shepherd runs for career-high 118 as Football downs Wilmington 24-6 on snowy, sloppy day

ADA — Senior Curt Shepherd ran for a career-high 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns, leading Ohio Northern to a 24-6 Ohio Athletic Conference football victory over Wilmington on snowy Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears wrap up their season with a 5-5 overall record and posted their 13th consecutive upper division finish in the OAC with a 5-4 mark.

Eric Wenzler, Rick Ingold named Academic All-District in Football

ADA — Juniors Eric Wenzler and Rick Ingold were named Academic All-District IV in Football for 2008 in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Both men were named to the Second Team.

Wenzler is now a two-time Second Team Academic All-District honorees, as he earned the award as a sophomore a year ago.

He is a three-year starter at corner back for the Polar Bears.

In four games this season, he had 14 tackles, a pass broken up and one half of a tackle for loss.

Jake Heaphy named OAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week for second consecutive week

ADA — Junior punter/kicker Jake Heaphy (Dublin/Jerome) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week for the second consecutive week for his efforts in Ohio Northern’s 36-21 victory over Capital on Saturday.

Heaphy averaged 38.4 yards on his four punts, two of which were downed inside the Capital 20-yard line.

He also made three of four extra point attempts and was one of two on field goals, making a 22-yarder and just missing on a 45-yarder.
