ADA — Ohio Northern senior safety Austin Netzley (Piqua) and senior wide receiver Jesse Kill (Elida/Delphos Saint John’s) were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in football for the 2007 season in voting conducted by the league’s 10 faculty advisors.

Netzley was a First Team pick and Kill was a Honorable Mention selection.

To be eligible for Academic All-OAC honors, a student/athlete must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, must be a starter or key reserve and must be in his second season of participation at the school in his or her sport.

Netzley, a mechanical engineering major, is also a two-time Academic All-District honoree, as he earned First Team honors this year and Second Team accolades as a junior last fall.

He is a two-year starter at free safety and was eighth on the squad with 42 tackles (23 solo) this year.

In his four-year career, Netzley has 91 tackles (45 solo), seven interceptions, five passes broken up, one forced fumble and one fumble recovered.

His seven career interceptions is tops among players on this year’s squad.

Netzley also served as one of ONU’s team captains.

Kill, a social studies major, played in six games at wide receiver and had seven receptions for 76 yards and a TD this fall.

His touchdown was a 22-yard reception in ONU’s season-opening victory over Millikin (Ill.) on Sept. 8.

He ended his career with eight receptions for 86 yards, while serving as a three-year regular on Ohio Northern’s special teams.

The Polar Bears (7-3 overall, 6-3 Ohio Athletic Conference) were third in the OAC, their 12th consecutive upper division finish in the 10-team league.
