After a 6-33 campaign in 2006, Bergman began the rebuilding process in 2007 and amassed a 15-23 overall mark. Bergman came to Ohio Northern after a one-year stint as assistant coach at his alma mater, Franklin (Ind.) College. He also served as a graduate assistant at Manchester (Ind.) from 2002-04, where he earned his master’s degree in contemporary leadership. A 2001 graduate of Franklin with a degree in secondary education, Bergman was a four-year starter in left field for the Grizzlies. In his four years as a Grizzly, he helped Franklin become a strong contender for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title under head coach Lance Marshall. The 2001 Franklin team finished second place overall in league play. While at Manchester, the baseball program won 97 games. The 2002 team won the conference tournament and went on to play at the NCAA Mid-East Regional tournament. In 2004, Manchester won the league’s regular season title and the conference tournament championship, going on to win the Mid-East Regional tournament and advancing to the NCAA Division III World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin. In the summer of 2001, Bergman served as head coach for the Indiana Dox Connie Mack summer baseball team. The Dox advanced to the Connie Mack World Series in Welland, Canada. Bergman is from Milroy, Indiana, and is a graduate of Rushville Consolidated High School. He resides in Ada, with his wife Amber. |

Swearingen comes to ONU after graduating from the College of Wooster this past Spring (’07). During his four years at the Wooster, Swearingen played both football and baseball for the Fighting Scots. He tallied a total of four conference championships in his college career, one in football and three in baseball. He made All-Conference honors as a Wide Receiver his junior year and compiled a total record of 32-10 during his four year football career. In baseball, Shaun was a four-year starter in the outfield under Head Coach Tim Pettorini. During his four year stint he helped the Scots compile a record of 156-35. The highlight of his career came in the 2005 season when Wooster finished third in the NCAA Division III College World Series. He earned Second Team All NCAC honors as a sophomore and garnered First Team Honors as a junior and senior. Also as a junior, he was named First Team All-District, First Team All-Region, and was eligible to be an All-American Honoree. In the summer of 2006, Shaun played for the Granville Settlers in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. He graduated from Wooster with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a minor in Physical Education. Starting this fall, he will be working towards his Masters of Education in Sports Administration at Bowling Green State University. Shaun is originally from Columbus, Ohio where he graduated from Bishop Watterson High School in 2003. |

Assistant Coach Chad Donsbach |

Donsbach comes to ONU with 12 years Division III coaching experience. For the last six seasons, Donsbach was the head coach at Defiance. He guided the Yellow Jackets to their first-ever trip to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. Over his six seasons at the helm, his teams set numerous offensive and defensive school records. Prior to Defiance, Donsbach spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Franklin (Ind.), where he coached a nationally-ranked defense. Donsbach played four-years of collegiate baseball at Rockford (Ill.), where he also spent three seasons as an assistant coach. In addition to his coaching, Donsbach is an instructor at the Chicago White Sox training centers and is a grounds keeper for the Indianapolis Indians, the triple-A affliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He resides in Defiance. |
