What is your major, and what are your plans after graduation? I’m a pharmacy and Spanish double major. I plan to get any job I can find, preferably in a hospital. I’ll probably start in Ohio initially then branch out to other states. What made you choose Ohio Northern? It was pretty much the pharmacy program, and then I saw the opportunity to play basketball. It was combination of the two, and I really liked the campus. The decision was between here and Ohio State for pharmacy, and I wasn’t going to play basketball there. What were some individual and team goals coming into this season? Our team goals were to win the OAC Championship and go undefeated at home. My individual goals were to make the most of our senior year, however it was possible, and also continue to shoot well. I also wanted to improve my overall game, especially defensively. I think I’ve accomplished that. What will it take to fulfill those team goals for the rest of the year? It will take consistency and focus night in and night out. Every single game we’ll have to take on by itself. Defense and rebounding will be huge as well. After winning four in a row and 8-of-9 overall, to what do you attribute the recent success? I think it is defense. We are a pretty veteran team, so we know how to win these close games, like last week. The reason we know how to win because we realize it comes down to defense even on nights when our offense is off. Prior to becoming ONU’s all-time 3-point shooter, how aware were you of the upcoming milestone? It has always been in the back of my head because the expectations were set after my sophomore season, being the leading 3-point shooter in the nation. But at the same time, I don’t really like to dwell on it. What does the record mean to you? It means a lot to me because it recognizes that you get out what you put into something. I’ve put in a lot of summers shooting 200 shots a day. In fact, I shot 500 times yesterday because I had a bad game. It is just a product of the work I’ve been putting in. Aside from shooting, what is your next biggest asset to the team? This year my defense has been an asset to the team. I think I have had more steals this season than I have had in the past three years. I’ve really worked to improve my defense, and leading by example on the defensive end when my offense isn’t there is a real asset. Describe head coach Michele Durand’s coaching style and philosophy. She is really big on defense and rebounding. She says if you can do those two things that you will usually win the game. If you can hold a team under 60 points then you’ll most likely win, and that has held true so far on our schedule. She is also really passionate about what she does, and we are able to feed off that. So far, what has been your best memory as an ONU basketball player? Last year, beating Baldwin-Wallace on our home court had been my best memory. But beating Wilmington and Capital in back-to-back games this year is up there, too. What is the best piece of advice you could give an incoming player to the women’s basketball program? Do your summer workouts, so they don’t die in fall conditioning. Also, be ready to work hard and to put a lot of time and effort into the program. What are your favorite things to do in some of your limited spare time? I like to get on the internet and Facebook, but I really don’t have much spare time. |
