Miller, Plowman win big as ONU wrestlers topple Mount Union 29-16

Jan. 29, 2008 By Mike Seem ALLIANCE The Ohio Northern wrestling team followed their impressive show at the Monon Bell Classic with a decisive 29-16 victory over Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union Tuesday night in Alliance. With the victory the Polar Bears improve to 9-8, 4-1 in the OAC while the Purple Raiders fall to 2-12, 1-3 in the OAC. Freshman Luke Miller earned a major decision over Robert Creatore at 157 pounds to e arn his team-leading 25th win on the season. Senior and No. 8-ranked Ben Plowman remained undefeated in OAC competition after pinnning Tim Campbell at 6:08 in the 174-pound class. Sophomore Jeff Penny got the Polar Bears off to a quick start following a Mount Union forfeit in the first match, winning by major decision over Kyle Jordan at 133 pounds. Junior A.J. Coleman earned a 3-2 decision over Mike Manypenny at 165 pounds. Freshman Joe Fisher completed the scoring for Northern winning by forfeit at 285 pounds. The Polar Bears compete at the Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational Friday and Saturday and will return to OAC action at John Carrol Tuesday at 7:30. Ohio Northern 29, Mount Union 16 |
