Mar. 29, 2008 By Tim Glon MARYSVILLE It was a great day to be a Polar Bear on Saturday, as the No. 16-ranked Ohio Northern women’s golf team dominated the ONU Spring Fling Invitational on a sunny, but cold and windy day at the Darby Creek Golf Course. The Polar Bears (41-4) won the tournament with a 356 and the Ohio Northern “B” team finished second with a 365. Wittenberg finished third with a 376, Wilmington and Muskingum tied for fourth with 440s and Capital was sixth with a 441. Ohio Northern senior Meagan Brennan took medalist honors with a 12-over par 84 on the 5,942-yard, Par-72 layout. Freshman Mindy Russell was third out of 32 golfers with an 88, and sophomores Megan Russell and Kaylea Thresher and freshman Ashley Johnson tied for seventh with 92s. ONU freshman Lauren Miller was second with an 85 while playing on the B team. The Polar Bears will return to action Monday at the Ohio Cup at Malone.
