Sept. 24, 2007 By Gary Petit DEFIANCE Five freshmen led the No. 8 Ohio Northern women's golf team to a second place finish at the Defiance Fall Invitational Monday afternoon at the Kettenring Country Club. ONU rested its upperclassmen in order to give the younger players an opportunity to gain varsity experience. The Bears were headed by Ellen Hazelet and Lauren Miller's matching 91s on the par-71, 5772-yard layout. Both players finshed tied for fourth. As a team, Northern finished with a 375 total, 20 shots behind team champion St. Francis (Ind.) at 355. Mindy Russell finished in the top-ten after carding a 45-4994 to finish eighth. Rounding out the Polar Bear top-five was Tiffany LeMaster with a 47-5299 to finish tied for 13th and Courtney Hoyles with a 58-56114 to finish tied for 22nd. Sophomore Jennifer Sherman played as an individual and carded a pair of 57s to also finish in a tie for 22nd with a 114. The Polar Bears will return to action next Sunday when they travel to the Wilmington Fall Invitational. Team Standings ONU Individuals |
