April 5, 2008 By Tim Glon LOCKBOURNE The No. 16-ranked Ohio Northern women’s golf team finished third of 17 teams with 719 strokes at the Capital Purple & White Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Foxfire Golf Club and The Players Club golf courses. The Polar Bears posted a 353 on Saturday on the easier 6,053-yard, Par-72 Foxfire Golf ,Course on Saturday after firing a 366 on the challenging 5,975-yard, Par-72, Players Course on Friday. No. 8-ranked Otterbein won the tournament with a 334-328662, No. 9 DePauw (Ind.) was second with a 333-336669 and No. 14 Olivet (Mich.) was fourth with a 367-358725. Senior Meagan Brennan paced Northern with a 90-85175, which was good for a 13th place tie in the 86-woman field. Sophomore Persha Ford shot a 91-89180 to finish tied for 18th, sophomore Kaylea Thresher carded a 92-89181 to finish tied for 21st and sophomore Megan Russell was tied for 24th with a 93-90183. Freshman Lauren Miller rounded out the Polar Bear scoring with a 107-92199 to finish tied for 44th. Nicole Garza of DePauw won medalist honors with an 81-81162. The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday at the Mount Union Invitational. |
