Men’s Tennis to face Transylvania (Ky.) in NCAA Tournament on Friday |

By Tim Glon ADA The Ohio Northern men’s tennis team will face Transylvania (Ky.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Central Region Tournament on Friday at 4 pm at Kenyon. The Polar Bears (17-4) are making their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, as are the Pioneers (16-5). Friday’s victor will advance to the second round to face tournament host and No. 11-ranked Kenyon (23-1) at 4 pm Saturday. The regional finals are slated for Sunday at 1 pm. The other side of the six-team regional bracket features No. 27-ranked Kalamazoo (Mich.) and Wilkes (Pa.) facing off at 11 am Friday with the winner playing No. 16-ranked Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) Saturday at 11 am. Ohio Northern qualified for the 41-team NCAA Tournament by winning the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament last week. ONU topped John Carroll 5-3 in the semifinals last Friday and bettered Baldwin-Wallace 5-4 in the finals on Saturday at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason, O. Northern defeated Capital 6-0 in the quarterfinals at the ONU Sports Center last Wednesday. The Polar Bears were the top seed in the OAC Tournament for the second consecutive year. Transylvania qualified for the tournament by winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament last weekend with victories over Bluffton, Hanover (Ind.) and Rose-Hulman (Ind.) ONU has now won three consecutive OAC regular season titles under third-year head coach Glenn Scheutzow. |
