    ADA — Ohio Northern head swimming and diving coach Peggy Ewald will travel to Beijing, China, for the Paralympic Games Sept. 6-17 as a member of the US Paralympic Swimming Team coaching staff.

    She has been a part of the Team USA Paralympic coaching staff since 2007 and has been the ONU swimming and diving coach since 2005, winning five OAC team titles, including four men’s crowns in succession.

    ADA — The Ohio Northern volleyball team has been picked 11th in the nation according to the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Division III Coaches Preseason Poll.

    The Polar Bears received 381 points after finishing tenth in the final poll of 2007.

    Juniata (Pa.) was picked first in the poll with 13 first-place votes and 588 total points, while defending NCAA III champion Washington (Mo.) was picked second with 10 first-place votes and 584 total points.

    In 2007, Northern played six of the teams picked in the top 25 of the preseason poll.

    ADA — The Ohio Northern women’s tennis team will open the fall portion of its 2008-2009 season on the road at the Oberlin Invitational under the guidance of 8th year head coach Scott Wills.

    The invitational will provide the Polar Bears with some of the toughest competition in the country with three of the teams ranked in the top ten and six ranked in the top 25.

    On Sept. 23, ONU will host its 7th annual Adidas Challenge which will consist of a doubleheader against local rivals Northwestern Ohio and Bluffton.
