By Gary Petit TIFFIN The Ohio Northern men's cross country team opened the 2007 season with a second place finish at the Tiffin/Heidelberg Invitational in Tiffin Saturday afternoon. ONU (2-1) finished tied with Heidelberg with 46 points but the Prince's recorded higher 6th and 7th place finishes to take the top spot. Tiffin came in third with 54 points while Findlay finished fourth with 77 points. For the Polar Bears, junior Thomas Adam, who earned All-Region honors in 2006, finished the 8K course in a time of 26:22 for a fourth place finish overall. He was followed by sophomore Brent Hiser in sixth place at 26:39 and junior Paul Lewis in seventh at 26:46. Sophomore Allen Bowsher finished 11th in a time of 27:05 and senior Tyson Snider finished 18th in 27:44. Rounding out the Polar Bear top seven was freshman Jared Simon and sophomore Nick Edmonds in 20th and 21st respectively. Simon crossed the line in 27:51 and Edmonds was right behind him in 27:53. "Overall, I thought we ran a pretty good race today," said assistant coach Jason Maus. "Everyone ran hard and I think this was a very good start to the season." In the open 3K race, junior 800-meter National Champion Jimmy O'Brien and junior Eric Porter breezed the field for a 1-2 showing. O'Brien took the top spot with an impressive time of 8:46 while Porter was close behind in 8:48. The Polar Bears will be in action next Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Hanover (Ind.)
