By Tim Glon ADA Ohio Northern senior Lenny Trusnik agreed to a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League on Sunday. Trusnik, a linebacker at Ohio Northern, was signed as a fullback by the Browns. He will report to a mini camp with the Browns on Thursday. Trusnik was named Second Team All-America by D3Football.com for the 2007 season. He is a two-time First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference pick as a middle linebacker and received the Bill Edwards Award as the league’s top linebacker. This season, he led the team and was second in the OAC in tackles with 106 (31 solo). He also had 11.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, an interception, two PBUs and a fumble recovery. He ends his career ranked fifth all-time with 294 tackles and ranked 10th in sacks with 13.0. Trusnik was also named the OAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24. On Nov. 24, Trusnik carried five times for 13 yards at fullback and had six tackles at middle linebacker at the East Coast Bowl in Petersburg, Va. He helped the North defeat the South 35-7 in the All-Star game that featured athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II and III and NAIA schools. Ohio Northern has had three players play in a regular season NFL game and have had an active player in the NFL each of the past seven years. Current ONU assistant football coach and head women’s golf coach Stacey Hairston played corner back and special teams for the Cleveland Browns from 1993-95. Jamal Robertson played running back and returned kickoffs with the San Francisco 49ers, the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons from 2001-2006. Lenny’s older brother, Jason Trusnik, is currently in his second year with the New York Jets as a linebacker and special teams player. |
